Angioedemas are characterized by the sudden onset of swelling in the deep dermis and subcutis. Their causes include allergic reactions, autoimmune mechanisms, infections and non-allergic/pseudo-allergic hypersensititvity reactions. Angioedemas often occur concomitantly with urticaria.
